JUST A GIRL WITH BIG DREAMS
I suppose you could say that my art journey began in elementary school; I was determined to become an artist when I grew up. I continued to take classes and draw for fun, but that dream slowly faded from view, especially after comparing myself to those who appeared to be superior artists. You know, sitting next to Dorothy as she casually drew a masterpiece while I struggled to get one petal on a flower right. (You’ve been there too, right?!) I finally decided I was a doodler and moved on.
Fast forward many years, past an education degree and a few years of teaching. Even as an adult, I never left my love of creating behind: I continued to draw, paint, and try new mediums. I learned how to write in calligraphy and combined it with my love of watercolor. That led to creating custom nursery artwork using watercolor and calligraphy. Soon after that, I began the adventure of teaching 1st-12th grade art, and suddenly I was being asked to create all different types of art!
After studying art and how to teach drawing to kids, I was struck by the importance of a positive mindset. I firmly believe that anyone can draw; it simply takes determination, being willing to make mistakes, and learning the ‘how’ behind drawing. I am passionate about creativity; I love inspiring others to be creative! God put so many incredible opportunities for growth in my path, which led me to become the artist I am today (my fourth-grade self is currently doing a happy dance). Ultimately I was created to be Audrey with a love for art by His design (aka Audrey By Design) Out of this passion for art, I’ve started this new business venture.
